Buttoned Alpaca Cowl Crochet Pattern

Crafted from luxurious alpaca yarn, this Espiral Buttoned Alpaca Cowl makes for a delightful crochet project, both simple and speedy to complete. The charming primrose pattern forms the main body of this neck warmer, while a customized fan stitch adorns the edges, lending a feminine touch.

Featuring complimentary workable buttons, this cowl/neck warmer ensures effortless wearability.

The alpaca yarn chosen is from the Espiral yarn line and the color above (and below) is called Cusco.  It’s a worsted weight yarn and is spun from 100% alpaca.  Working with this yarn is an absolute joy, it is so irresistibly soft and lovely.

Cusco is an array of natural colors, brown, tan, cream, black, gray, and white.  It has the look of a random handspun skein of yarn.

The pattern is free and designed by Pamela Mazzola of Luna Lu Crochet.  She calls it Pam’s Ombre Cowled Neck Warmer.  Pamela originally learned to crochet rag rugs from her great grandmom many years ago, and continues to crochet in memory of her, and to help keep the art of crochet alive.  Rebecca Swan-Byrd created the written crochet pattern.

This yarn color is called Barranca.  The combination of natural black, gray, and white colors is striking.

The cowl design is worked in rows and made into a rectangular piece that is 5″ wide.  At that point the rectangular piece is folded to create an overlapping square.  The outer edges are then worked in the round.  More rounds can be added if more length is desired.  Buttons can be added either as workable buttons or embellishments.

Worsted Weight Yarn – 355 yards

The yarn color pictured above is called Arequipa.  It is designed with natural shades of brown, tan, and cream.

I love this neck warmer crocheted in White and think this may be my favorite color for this pattern.  It really shows off the pretty stitching and of course will go with most anything.  Espiral yarn is available in White, and Medium Gray.  Plans to add more solid colors to this line are in the works.
